Midnight Drive

I have been listening to Taylor Mali lately and it has reminded me how much I love writing and poetry. I just put pen to paper and started scrawling down some images and words.

I heard the engine rev in
The drive
Where was it going and
Who was taking it
It seemed to pur and
Moan life
Tired from journeys or
From the nights unrest
Hot heat poured from it
It seemed to
Regret its very existence and
Scream out
NO! I DON’T WANT TO GO!
As my mother got in.
The bags in the back sat
Expectedly aware
The moisture on her reddened
Face soft
The slamming of a door
Shook silent
The core of my being sat
Unexpectedly unaware.
The tires slid down
The gravel road
Pebbles of loss
Flying out
NO! I WANT TO GO!
I screamed inside
As the engines groan
Broke the silence
From my heart.
